I have always wanted to be a part of a surprise proposal, and I’m thrilled that Todd allowed me to do that for him. Todd contacted me because he wanted to to propose to his girlfriend, Celine. He told me that he wanted to do it last weekend, but the stars just didn’t align and he didn’t want to wait any longer. He lives in Dallas (Celine lives here in Austin), and he told me he’d be coming down to visit this weekend and wanted to do it then.
The best part? He wanted to do it during their trip to Sam’s Club. He knew they had to go and get some dog food and thought, why not do it then? I absolutely loved this idea. He wanted to turn an ordinary day and activity into a moment that neither of them would be able to forget.
Friday rolled around, and there I was, loitering in the pet care aisle at Sam’s. With my camera. I’m going to be honest with you guys, it felt so bizarre and I was somehow convinced I was going to get thrown out, but I knew it would be worth it.
When Todd and Celine entered the aisle, I stopped them and awkwardly asked them if I could photograph them for my “documentary project on people who shop at warehouse stores.” Yes, this was the best I could come up with. Celine was thrilled to be a part of it and asked if they should start back at the beginning of the aisle for the full affect 🙂 She’s adorable.
She pointed out the food they needed, and Todd proceeded to go over and find the perfect one. He kept shifting and moving the bags around until he got to one on the bottom. He knelt down to get low enough to pick it up, and then turned to face Celine. She was absolutely shocked and surprised.
Congratulations to you both!
